Never Fully Dressed Preloved: The Genius of Reselling

It’s official, Never Fully Dressed has launched it’s Preloved platform in the UK. The idea is simple, if you own a piece from NFD that you’re looking to part ways with, you can list it on their official website, rather than a platform like Vinted or Depop.

The way it works is very straight forward for both sellers and buyers. As a buyer, you see the current resale price alongside the original. The site also allows you to create an alert if you’re after a particular piece which may not be listed yet.

After a successful sale as a seller, you choose whether you prefer 70% of the amount you sold for paid to you, or 100% of the sale price as credits on The NFD website. Whilst you can cash out the full 100% if you sell on another platform, selling on NFD Preloved connects you to other fans of the brand, meaning you’re likely to sell quicker since people are looking for exactly these products. Likewise, if you’re a true Never Fully Dressed fan yourself, maybe the 100% value worth in credits works out better for you if you intend on purchasing something on their website in the near future.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a fashion brand introduce a preloved platform dedicated to their clothing. Djerf Avenue has Djerf Avenue Re-Sell. It’s interesting to see that the payment system works exactly the same, with either 70% of your sale in cash or 100% as store credit.

Here Are The Reasons Why Brand Owned Preloved Platforms Are Genius-

Quality Check

It shows the quality of the clothes. Lucy Aylen launched Never Fully Dressed back in 2009, a decade and a half ago. If you see a piece of clothing being sold from one of the earlier collections, this is a true testament of how the clothing holds up over time. Also, items being resold extends their lifetime, which is a big sustainability win.

Showcases Previous Products

It highlights previous collections, which may not be getting their main page focus right now due to recent drops. With over 15 years worth of clothing, it’s impossible for all of the pieces to get the amount of attention they deserve. Unless something is relaunched or brought out in further size ranges or colours, brands tend to set their pages from new to old (or their most iconic pieces). The Preloved platform means that you may come across gems you never even knew existed.

Outfit Inspiration

All the items are photographed, usually on somebody. This also provides outfit and styling inspiration. Seeing how other people styled the clothes can also show you new ways of forming outfits from similar items already in your wardrobe. Think of a Pinterest x Never Fully Dressed collab.

Authenticity

Buying a preloved item directly from the original retailer’s website also acts as a proof of authenticity. A brand would never sell fake / copies of their own designs, so you have some peace of mind that you’re getting the real deal.

I haven’t yet purchased from either preloved platform, but know that if I do, you’ll be the first to read about it.
